When Covid Affects the Community

Sara Miller, our Project Director in Guatemala and Brien Ashdown, our US Executive Director have just published an article on the School of Hope’s response to COVID in the journal of Local Development and Society.

The article entitled “When COVID affects the community: The response of a needs-based private school in Guatemala” discusses how the School of Hope has addressed food insecurity, educational challenges, and lack of social support during the pandemic by employing a localized, culturally relevant and constantly adaptable approach.

Without the fast and flexible thinking and hard work of School of Hope staff, many families in Jocotenango would be without food, cleaning, and hygiene products. Our staff’s long standing relationship with the local community and their connection with local providers means they are able to respond appropriately and ensure the basic needs of our students and their families continue to be met.
